Wedding at Westgate Hall – Southampton, Hampshire

I often underestimate Southampton. Living in the New Forest, I rarely venture into the city that is right on my doorstep. But every time I do I’m reminded of what a vibrant and interesting historical place it is. From the ruins of old abbeys, to the waterfront that has been the shipping powerhouse of the UK for centuries, this city has so much going for it. Plus it’s right on the south coast with views out across Southampton Water, and the solent to the Isle of Wight. It really is a bustling, dynamic city.

The Venue

Westgate Hall is exactly as it sounds. A venue posted up next to the Westgate of the city in the old walls of Southampton. It has gorgeous old wooden rafters in a vaulted ceiling. It was the perfect setting for Louise and Andy’s intimate wedding. After the ceremony we ventured out onto the wall for some photos before making our way down to the waterfront, and eventually ending up at the Red Lion Inn, a 15th century pub in the centre of the city with its own set of history and character.

The Wedding Day

This summer in Hampshire was a scorcher. We had several weeks of no rain and Louise and Andy’s wedding day was directly in the middle of one of these heat waves in July. Their day played out perfectly, and though it was hot, the smiles and laughter never diminished. Louise looked amazing in her wedding gown. Their 4 boys (yes 4!) were complete show stoppers in their suits and ties, with the smallest 2 even walking mum down the isle. I feel so fortunate to have been a part of this special day.

If you are planning your wedding at Westgate Hall, or anywhere in Southampton, I would love to chat to you about photographing your day. Please contact me for more info.

Wedding at Cowdray Ruins and The Walled Garden
The Couple I met Meg and Matt at a pub, about a year before their wedding at the Walled Garden at Cowdray. We chatted over a pint and they were so easy going. During our meeting we ended up talking and discussing about 100 other things apart from their wedding. Following our initial meetup, a couple months later, I shot their engagement session here in the forest. During their shoot, I asked them how they felt about jumping a fence and venturing into a field to get potentially a great shot, and they didn't even hesitate. There is not enough I can say about these two. As with all wedding, you really get to know a couple when you celebrate ...

The Day This wedding was so beautiful. I knew it would be. From the moment we got the news that Em and John had gotten engaged, I couldn't picture anything but a spectacular day for them. From what I knew and had heard about Emily, she doesn't do anything half fast. So when she wrote to me, asking if I might possibly photograph it for them, I was thrilled (almost like being asked to shoot the royal wedding thrilled). When these two came out for our wedding in January they spent the whole week up on the mountain with us. I was a bit worried that Emily might change her mind about wanting me to photograph their wedding, because well, I didn't e ...

This wedding was a much welcomed event. After being in China for three months, not photographing any weddings, it was really nice to get back into, and remember why I love doing this. Although it made me miss it in a serious way.Let me just say, it is incredibly humbling when a couple wants me to photograph their wedding so much, that they bring me to the far away place that they're getting married. And yet, a ginormous compliment as well. Travel is in my bones, and if I get the opportunity to be in a new place while photographing what I love, I will always make that a priority, and do anything I can to get there. This lovely affair wa ...
