Wedding Photography at Upton Barn and Walled Garden – Devon Wedding Photographer

Feature wedding

Wedding in Collumpton, Devon

There is something very whimsical about the Devon countryside and it really sets the scene for a gorgeous wedding event. It has a relaxed atmosphere, but with a traditional English feel and charm. It was the perfect setting for Mike and Julie’s French and English celebrations.

Upton Barn and Walled Garden

This venue has been completely fitted out and every last detail has been thought of. The countryside surrounding the barn goes on for miles, and the walled garden is bursting with colours and floral scents. I couldn’t imagine a better spot for Julie (being a gardener) to say her vows to Mike. A little rain threatened the day a bit before and during the ceremony, but the staff were well prepared with umbrellas and ways to keep guests dry. During the cocktail hour and reception there was loads of space for guest to spread out and mingle, while the drinks and signature cocktails flowed.

The Wedding Day

The day progressed flawlessly for Mike and Julie, as they had done so much prep and planning beforehand. They were both truly able to relax and just enjoy spending time with their guests. Flowers, food, and herbs were a centrepiece of the day. Julie is a gardener in London and designed the most gorgeous bouquet with a variety of edible flowers and herbs and a gorgeous artichoke at the centre.  The speeches were done in both French and English to accommodate the guests who had traveled from the continent. Mike and Julie requested lots of natural candid shots of them and their guests, and as you can see there was joy and laughter all day long.

You wouldn't know it by looking at these photos, but this shoot nearly got rained out. The day before is when we'd originally scheduled it, and it poured rain from dawn to dusk. Scouting unique locations is my specialty, and in this area there is no shortage of magnificent backdrops. Documentary Wedding Photography – Posed Photos VS Candids
Documentary Photography Documentary wedding photography is a way to tell the entire story of a wedding authentically. You get little looks of what happens behind the scenes to make a day come together, as well as the all-important big moments. You see the laughter, as well as the tears because if a wedding is anything, it's emotional. So on a wedding day I tend to blend in and capture these little in between moments that the couple are normally completely unaware of.My aim is to always photograph the connection between people in an authentic way. So 90% of a wedding day I spend being a documentary photographer. I take photos of the littl ...

Wedding at Westgate Hall – Southampton Wedding Photographer
Wedding at Westgate Hall - Southampton, Hampshire I often underestimate Southampton. Living in the New Forest, I rarely venture into the city that is right on my doorstep. But every time I do I'm reminded of what a vibrant and interesting historical place it is. From the ruins of old abbeys, to the waterfront that has been the shipping powerhouse of the UK for centuries, this city has so much going for it. Plus it's right on the south coast with views out across Southampton Water, and the solent to the Isle of Wight. It really is a bustling, dynamic city. The Venue Westgate Hall is exactly as it sounds. A venue posted up next to the Westga ...
