Austrian Alps Wedding Photography – Zell am See

Winter Adventure Wedding

If you need your photographer to snowboard down a mountain with you while you’re in all your wedding gear, I’m your girl. This wedding was so much fun. I’m calling it an adventure wedding because a) How many weddings do you get to go to that start in a small Austrian hall (at 10am), then b) transport all the guests to the top of a mountain for lunch and a party, and c) only to all ski/snowboard down for dinner and the after party. It was organised to perfection. It was an adventure wedding.

Zell am See

Mike and Shula come to this ski resort, Zell am See, a few times a year. The area has plenty of terrain, but doesn’t have that big resort feel to it that you get other places in the Alps. We came out for the whole week, as we hadn’t snowboarded in a couple years and wanted to make the most of it. We fell in love with the area. Down in the town there’s a gorgeous lake, and we were impressed that even towards the end of March we could ride from the top, all the way into Zell. One day we took a quick shuttle over the glacier, Kaprun, and had a beautiful powder day.

The Wedding – Hotel Heitzmann

I love that these guys made it a week long affair. We got so much time up on the mountain, and had the most beautiful sunny day on the wedding day itself. In the evening we headed back to the Hotel Heitzmann for a superb dinner. (We actually booked our entire stay at this hotel which included our dinner every night, and it was the best food ever. Not a buffet, but a sit down 4 course meal with allowances for vegetarian and pescatarian.) The evening entertainment was an amazing band, The Side Project.

Way to go guys. You truly organised the perfect week, and wedding day.

I always try my best, no matter what, to get a couple in front of my camera before their wedding day. Not everyone is used to having a camera pointing at them, and it's often really hard to not go into "cheese" mode when it is. Getting a couple in front of the camera before their wedding day, helps me to coach them a bit and get used to my style of photography. That way, on their big day, they can focus on each other, and that's when the magic happens. However, these two had no problem in front of my camera. It seemed like they had already done it all before. We got to sneak away from the party for a bit to catch that afternoon light that ...

Table Mountain
We've been talking about it since we were here last year. You can see it from anywhere in Cape Town it's so big (and everywhere else is so flat). It really is the icon of South Africa, and I can just imagine the first Dutch settlers seeing it on the horizon and deciding to come here. A huge plateau protruding out of what is relatively flat land. We've been waiting for a clear sunny day on the weekend to do it, and I'd been checking the forecast all week to make sure it wasn't going to change. When we woke up on Saturday morning we checked the mountain from our window and saw just a few clouds wisping around the base, not enough to keep u ...
