When I was 18, I was quite active in my hometown sailing community. I’d been involved in sailing since I was 9, and at this time I taught sailing to kids in my local club and in the summertime was out racing 3 nights a week. Shortly after I graduated from high school a friend of mine gave my name to a couple in Seattle who were looking for crew for one of their local races, and that’s how I came to know Ben and Jen. (note: they tell a slightly different story that is longer, and more embarrassing, so since this is my blog I’m going to leave those details out) Since then they both have been close friends of mine and subsequently Eliot’s as well. I jump on and sail with them any chance I get. This past November I was up in the NW photographing a wedding and the following weekend happened to be one of my favorite races. I’d always told Eliot about it, so when Ben and Jen offered us a ride on their boat we decided that sailing around the San Juans in early November was about the most fun thing a couple who lived in FL could do. Needless to say, the last 3 years in Florida have thinned our blood out a bit. But as it always is with Ben and Jen, it was an awesome time.

Longmen Town
Thursday was a public holiday in China so I decided to take a motorbike ride through the countryside. It was a steamy, hot sunny day, and I wanted to escape the stagnant air of Fuyang for a while. The hills around where I live give an idyllic feeling of ancient China. Once you leave the town it's easy to find yourself wondering how you ever got to such a foreign place. You see farmers working out in their fields with no machinery, only their livestock to help them along with their own back breaking labor. Living in Fuyang, I see so many different parts of Chinese culture that most westerners who come to China may never see. It's part of the r ...

Xiamen China Engagement Photography – Diana and Sam
Pre wedding sessions. Awesome locations. Lovely couple. And funky architecture.Sam and Di are good friends who's wedding we celebrated the night before we left China to move here. A gorgeous Hong Kong wedding. But of course, we took some engagement photos a few months beforehand. This was a little mini-sesh, we got together early one morning and explored the area around our city, Xiamen. Since being in Xiamen, whenever we would walk down to the park near the waterfront, we would go under the overpass with all the vines crawling up it, in a very 'life after people' kind of way. I've always wanted to put a couple in a frame there.

Sister, Sister
So I was in my home town last month. It's up in the beautiful pacific north west, and I try to take advantage of as much as I can while I'm there (we just don't have trees like this in Florida). I asked my little sister if she wanted to go for a walk with me. We had quite a few uncharacteristically sunny days while I was up there. It was so beautiful, but the days were so short. It felt like the sun had just managed to get up into the sky and it was setting again. Regardless I was spoiled. Here's my little sister. She has an adventurous spirit and is about to embark on another one. When I look at these photos, especially the close ups I se ...
