New Forest Photography :: Maternity Shoot with Alice

The importance of having maternity photos. Pregnancy is such a surreal time in life. There’s so many changes happening in the build up and getting ready for this new little being to enter your world. You’re unsure of exactly what lies ahead, and everyone tells you it’s the hardest and most amazing thing ever, which can be so confusing and contradicting. You give up things that you like (sushi, cheese, alcohol) not realising that these are small sacrifices compared to what’s to come. Nobody can tell you or prepare you for it. When this little person arrives, life changes forever, and you embrace it.

Taking maternity photos is such a good way to capture this in-between phase of life. While it’s in the process of changing, but hasn’t completely. It’s exciting, scary, bewildering, and beautiful. Having photos of your pregnant belly is a wonderful thing to look back on. I have a photo hanging in my son’s room of me when I was pregnant with him, and he loves pointing to my belly when I ask him where he is in the photo. Having this keepsake of this special time in my life is invaluable to me, and I hope it will be something that is special to him as well.

The best time to take maternity photos, in my opinion, is when you’re between 30 and 35 weeks. This way it’s before you get into that home stretch and you’re still comfortable enough to walk around, and get up and down from the ground. I love shooting maternity in natural locations or places with interesting architecture, or ideally a mixture of both.

Alice was such a trooper on this day and was so laid back about everything. She was easy-going and ready for everything that lay ahead. It was a pleasure shooting these for her.

But in the stillness of the moment it takes for a polaroid picture To capture our faces forever, The world has turned a touch on its axis, and the only thing certain Is everything changes. -Frank Turner "Polaroid Picture" Those lyrics and the album that they come from was the soundtrack to our 4 month road trip. It's seems a bit mocking, that those words are swirling around in my head today as I sit on the 36th floor of an apartment in China. How quickly everything changes. Looking through these polaroids from our summer, that time now feels really far away. Those carefree summer days are quite the contrast to now, planning o ...

(kav-eh-na) A boy. A lovely, sweet cheeked, kissable baby boy. It's been 4 weeks since this guy came onto the scene, and I would be a liar to try to describe it as complete bliss. It has come with A LOT of challenges that neither one of us were prepared for at all. But we love this little person more than I can describe. When I was about 22 weeks pregnant we went for the anatomy scan where they check all the vital organs and you can find out the sex of your baby if you choose. At this scan we found out that our little person (not yet knowing if he was a boy or a girl) had a problem with one of his kidneys. This triggered othe ...

Today is the start of my productive week.  I had an awesome weekend hanging out with friends, boating, islanding (don't think that's word, but it should be one in FL) and trying to take my mind off being away from a certain someone for the next 3 weekends to come.  I'm lucky to have some really great friends to help with that.  They definitely are the reason it's so awesome being in Florida. How cute is this little girl?  Her and her sister are coming up soon! See full post here
