Southampton Wedding Photography :: Emily and John

Film portraits wedding

This wedding was so beautiful. I knew it would be. From the moment we got the news that Em and John had gotten engaged, I couldn’t picture anything but a spectacular day for them. From what I knew and had heard about Emily, she doesn’t do anything half fast. So when she wrote to me, asking if I might possibly photograph it for them, I was thrilled (almost like being asked to shoot the royal wedding thrilled). When these two came out for our wedding in January they spent the whole week up on the mountain with us. I was a bit worried that Emily might change her mind about wanting me to photograph their wedding, because well, I didn’t exactly have my “I’m A Professional” hat on that week (not that I ever really do). But I got to know her and John so much more that week, and luckily nobody changed their mind 🙂

The day did not disappoint. E&J are the perfect combination of being incredibly creative, and very organized. They had planned everything out perfectly, and even got the weather to cooperate. One of my favorite parts of the day was the Ceilidh band that lead everyone in the barn dancing. It was incredibly lively and got everyone out on the dance floor.

I shot with both digital and film for this day (4 cameras), and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the help of my husband. He did everything from helping find locations, carrying cameras, switching out film, and being a second shooter. I love shooting film, but it definitely takes more time and work, and requires another pair of hands. I was so thankful he was there so I could “have it all” and get the shots I wanted.

Here’s Emily and John, as husband and wife ::

Essential for every English wedding, I would imagine.

Last minute fixings.

I love what my Holga captured that day.

And it starts…

It was amazing. Thanks Em and John for making us a part of it all.

And thanks to Eliot, some of the images above are his.

My last post of 2011. I'm in my hometown, Bellingham, right now doing some last minute organization for the wedding. There's no stress, I feel like that happened a couple weeks ago. We are just enjoying being on holiday, just the two of us, and getting ready for a week of fun with good friends and our families. There's lots to do, but we're getting it done and everything is coming together. With the new year brings lots of new things: New resolutions, new goals, new places, new marriage, new experiences and for this soon to be mama..... A new baby. This shoot ranks up there with being one of my favorites. I love how the images turned ...

How many families do you know that want to have their water fight photographed after they take their "nice" photos? I had such a blast with this super photogenic and lovely family. Kelly and I have been meeting on Monday morning for the past few months, for what I like to call "punishing Ashley." She's a personal trainer and an amazing inspiration. I always leave our sessions feeling uplifted and with a new appreciation for my body. I just wish she could count better ;-) I loved getting to meet her fiance, Phil, and their combined families. Each of the 4 kids has something a little different to bring to the table in terms of personality and q ...

Southampton Engagement Photography :: Em and John
Something I never really considered all that much before I got married was, the family I'd be becoming a part of. But I have to say, as far as in laws go I couldn't have hand chosen better ones. Emily is Eliot's cousin and one of the sweetest people you'd ever meet. Her and John came to our wedding so many of my friends and family now know who she is. Whenever I would tell someone I was going to England to photograph her wedding, I would in some form or another get, "Oh sweet Emily?" So Em, just so you know, you were a hit. A few days before the wedding we decided to do a little mini session :: 35mm B&W Holga cross proces ...
